Day 8 Menden, VT to Glens Falls, NY - Tot: 334.4 miles
I woke up to a stunningly beautiful day overlooking the Killington Mountain in Vermont. Killington marked our exit from the Green Mountains and the climbing and descending we had enjoyed since our climb up the Kancamagus Highway five days ago. There was a certain feeling of accomplishment having scaled the range of mountains in New Hampshire and Vermont.
The Vermont Inn in Mendon was a quaint and pleasant little inn sitting on the western slope of Mt Killington along Rt 4. The inn keeper, Kayla Bouffard, was determined we would enjoy our stay. John and I were greeted by our amazing partners in this journey, Mary B. and Allane with word that Kayla was ready to pour us a craft beer. We stored our bikes, took showers and took her up on her wonderful offer.
The morning was glorious. Kayla's son was our waiter for breakfast. What a treat, the meal was delicious and the service was impeccable - charming personality and precise order taking.
Two bikers resting before entering Castleton just prior to riding into Whitehall, NY.
John taking a much deserved rest.
John and I left on a swift downward glide into Rutland, VT. After leveling off we headed into Whitehall, New York, a rough and tumble workingman's town along the Champlain Waterway that serves as the border for New York and Vermont.
Entering New York. Allane took this photo since I did not see a sign on the route we rode.
The sun remained high and bright all day. The heat takes a noticeable toll on riders and I was no exception. Both John and I consumed our water and gatorade/electrolyte bottles. But in the end, we cruised into the Sara Glens Motel along Rt 9 south of Glens Falls. Ahh!
Finishing up at the Sara Glen Motel after a sunny, hot but enjoyable day's ride.
