Day 32 Annawan, IL to Davenport, IA 41.7 miles and Day 33 down day Total 1,525.6 mi
The morning sent us back to the Purple Onion, on bikes and in the truck this time. The riders were looking forward to a much shorter ride and a new state. Again in the hot sun with no shade, they soldiered on. Today was John and Nancy's last ride for this trip, ending in Davenport, Iowa. It was exciting because this fills in their cross-country goal completely through Omaha, Nebraska! They crossed the Mississippi River over the Arsenal Bridge.
Not sure why there are pelicans here
We rested at the beautiful Hotel Blackhawk and watched in surprise as a downpour approached over the hill. It was over in 30 minutes and the sun came back out. We walked around the downtown a bit and then ate dinner in Me and Billy's. John and Nancy ventured further afield and even tried the pool and hot tub back at the hotel.
Slot for mail near the elevators. Sadly no longer used.
Next morning, John and Nancy took the truck to the airport Rent-a-Car and picked up a car for their drive back to Cleveland. We said goodbye and prepared for the remainder of our trip as a mere duo.
We went to a laundromat and then returned for more plotting the route. Allane set out to visit the Figge Art Museum and was only a couple blocks away when a rainstorm similar to Thursday's hit. She had to duck into a little store and then run the last bit through the lessening rain. The Figge had a stunning Tiffany window, a Picasso, a Winslow Homer and an exhibition on Grant Wood, to name a few.
Nancy and John surprised us with reservations for spa massages at the hotel, which were fabulous. Steve then worked on his bike, replacing a tube and tire. We ate at Annatello's, just down the street and went to bed early in preparation for a long day on Saturday.
