Day 37 LaCrosse, WI to Wabasha, MN 63.9 miles Total 1800.9 mi
Breakfast was at The Hungry Peddler and then Steve was off. Allane retraced their steps into the city to visit the Riverside International Friendship Gardens and Riverside Park. The gardens were lovely. LaCrosse has sister cities in China, Germany, France, Russia and Norway. Each country is represented in the park.
Along the riverside
Can you see the natural art of the spider web under the bow?
I was also determined to return to the Largest Sixpack in the World for a picture.
In Fountain City, we found a wonderful little cafe called The Golden Frog. It had quite a history from 1878 and the builder having had golden hair and a tin frog outside. What we found inside was Frog Water! Of course I had some...a lemony, limey, sour apple-y thirst quencher. And great sandwiches.

In Fountain City if you look one way, it looks like this:
If you look the other way, it looks like that:That is pretty much all there is.
We made it to Wabasha, in spite of their highways where you can only turn right. If you want to go left, you have to turn right and zip into the left lane and make a u-turn onto the other side. Takes a bit of getting used to. It was a Tuesday night. Tuesday nights are becoming notorious in small towns. Why do all the restaurants close on the same night? What if the waiters and waitresses want to go out to eat on their night off? We tried the Hoppy Girl Brewing cafe, famous for being the bar in the movie Grumpy Old Men. Closed. We did drive down Hyacinth St, where all the houses from the movie were.
We tried Stacey's Kitchen. Closed. We tried the Silver Star Saloon. Closed. BUT, across the street we spotted Los Portales. Yay! It was open.
Success!
Oh, yes, the food was good, too.
