Day 53 Down Day in Medora, ND

The BADLANDS!  It was such a surprise, to come from miles and miles of prairie and rolling hills and suddenly begin seeing canyons, ravines, gullies, buttes, mesas, and spectacular vistas and colors.  Wow, and then these guys....

So, after our night in the Wooly Wagon, we got up early and drove into Theodore Roosevelt National Park.  We began the morning communing with prairie dogs.

There was so much spectacular scenery, it is hard to choose among our many pictures.
Looking one direction and then the other...
Steve taking a picture of....
this

A coal vein fire, evidently closely monitored.  Signs said "Active coal vein fire.  Do not report"

Why doesn't this wash away when it rains?

This big boy came up along the guardrail and into the road right beside us.

These horses were all sizes and colors, and all beautiful.

We walked the trail on Wind Canyon, overlooking the Little Missouri River.  I was not excited about the very pinnacle, but Steve climbed to the very top.

On the way out of the park we saw this guy ambling across the field.  As we slowed to watch, he continued right into the road.

Medora is definitely a tourist town.  But with fun shops and establishments.

Also some very interesting residents.  I never would have noticed him, but he flew in and landed beside me on the fence rail.

We finished up our stay in Medora with reservations for something called The Pitchfork Fondue, as well as The Medora Musical.
