Day 55 Glendive, MT to Circle, MT 50.1 miles Total 2,670.2 mi

Another day without much excitement.  Because the restaurant at our motel was open 24 hours, Steve could get a good breakfast, even though he left early.  Gone by 5am and on the road with the temperatures in the 70s.  A very good choice, because although he moved to secondary roads, there was still no shade, only one town, and sun, sun, sun.

I stopped ahead of him and stitched until he caught up with me.  I then proceeded to Circle.  I caught the hotel proprietor before he headed out "to the cabin."  Turned on the AC and waited for Steve.  By the time he showed up, it was in the 90's outside and the 70's inside.

We ventured out in the afternoon, walking because the town is so small.  Here is what we found:

We did find one restaurant, called the Wooden Nickel, which was closed for the holiday.  Another shady-looking spot (in more than one way...) deserved a look-see.  It was a bar, with what appeared to be three patrons on bar stools, nursing drinks.  We said hello.  They said hello back.  One fellow sighed heavily, stood up slowly and moved into the serving area.  He slurred, "How are you all?  There are only two of you, right, 'cause if there are more, I would say How are all o' you all." Steve asked if we could get any food here.  His comment was  "In Circle?  No way in hell.  We do serve food on Friday nights, but I don't know what day it is."  He was absolutely toasted.  We decided that we wouldn't challenge his coordination or his commitment to his establishment by asking for a drink!

On our walk back, the proprietor of the motel and his wife stopped next to us in their truck.  He wanted to meet Steve.  He was apologetic that there was nothing available in Circle on the holiday weekend.  They even offered us a ride because of the heat but we were less than a quarter mile from the room, so we managed.

We returned to the gas station by the motel and got a tiny pizza and some chicken strips.  Yay, food. And soccer games and Red Sox baseball on TV.
